How Long Do Courses Take?

Created by Andrew Kemp, Modified on Thu, 28 May at 5:22 PM by Andrew Kemp

Course lengths vary depending on the subject, depth of content, and any assessments included. This article explains what affects course duration and how you can find out how long a specific course will take before you begin.

TIP — You can complete a course across multiple sessions — you do not need to finish it in one go. Your progress is saved automatically.

1. Where to Find Course Duration

The estimated duration of each course is displayed in two places:

  • Course catalogue listing — Shown alongside the course title when browsing available courses
  • Course detail page — Displayed at the top of the page when you click on a course to view its details

2. What Affects Course Length?

Several factors influence how long a course takes to complete:

  • Number of modules or lessons — Longer courses contain more sections
  • Video and audio content — Must be watched or listened to in full where required
  • Assessments and quizzes — Add time depending on the number of questions
  • Minimum time requirements — Some courses require you to spend a minimum amount of time on each page before progressing

3. Typical Duration Ranges

While course lengths vary, here are typical ranges to give you a general idea:

  • Short awareness courses — 15 to 30 minutes
  • Standard compliance courses — 30 to 90 minutes
  • In-depth professional courses — 2 hours or more

NOTE — The time shown on the course is an estimate. Your actual completion time may vary depending on how quickly you read, watch, and interact with the content.
